Hello! I am 

Alethea Shenea

(uh-LEE-thuh - shuh-NAY)

An avid artist, reader and writer, teacher and learner, I happily live in the Upper Midwest, travel extensively, and always look for the positives in life. I have been creating since I was a child and creating art pieces for others since the mid 90s. In my spare time, in addition to creating, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, traveling, hiking, and biking, often photographing the things that inspire me along the way. Graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in Psychology from Buena Vista University, I thought novel writing was my next move but life had more in mind first. Fast forward to today and I have raised twin boys, held positions in technology, higher education, financial services, and economic development, earned a Master of Arts in Education, and took coursework toward my doctorate. But no matter what my day-to-day has looked like, I have always made time to create. And believe me, life has taken a few unexpected turns! Hasn't everyone's? But I make sure I learn something new every day, look for the positives, and empower those around me to be their best selves. Spreading JOY is so much better than being negative or worse yet, going through life on autopilot.

 As an artist, in addition to writing and photography, I love creating in watercolor, acrylics, quilling (paper filigree), crochet, and mixed media. My art captures my perspectives on real life beauty. My fiction, poetry, songs, and essays are for entertainment with a few little nuggets of wisdom baked in here and there. 

My hope is that my creations, touch, inspire or inform but above all, bring JOY.
